Smart Policing in Action: AI Helps Intercept Undocumented Migrant Worker
Officers from Liuzhangli Police Station of Xinyi Precinct, Taipei City Police Department recently identified an irregular license plate via the AI-based Smart Policing System during a routine patrol, leading to the interception of an undocumented migrant worker. This AI-based system detected an abnormal status for a scooter's license plate, prompting officers to immediately stop the vehicle, issue a ticket, and impound it in accordance with the law. Upon further investigation, police confirmed the rider was an undocumented Vietnamese worker, Mr. Xie (born in 1979), who had unjustifiably absented from his legal job due to dissatisfaction with the working hours and salary. He was first taken to the police station before being transferred to the Specialized Operation Brigade of the National Immigration Agency (NIA) for further processing. The Xinyi Precinct stated that AI technology significantly enhances operational efficiency. It not only enables the precise interception of traffic violations, but also assists in the real-time identification of suspicious individuals, showcasing the effectiveness of smart policing in supporting the law enforcement efforts.
