Enhanced Security Check and Improved Communication Systems Ensure Complete Success of the 2017 Taipei Universiade
To safeguard the safety for 2017 Taipei Universiade, we employ X-ray inspection machines for security checks and mandate the Aviation Police Bureau to train 1,050 officers from 5 regions, including Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyaun City, Hsinchiu City and Hsinchiu County, so as to improve their security inspection skills for this event. After several simulative tests, the Executive Committee of the 2017 Taipei Universiade held a friendly competition for these safety inspectors to challenge and motivate each other. In this friendly competition, some prohibited items which spectators might bring to the venues, such as lighters, scissors, box cutters, nail clippers, compasses, pressure spray cans, long handle umbrellas and alcoholic beverages were displayed. The Executive Committee of the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade urges citizens to read the list of prohibited items on the official website before entering the venues, which will help speed up the entry process. When the friendly competition was over, the Chief Executive Officer, Su, Li-Chiung (蘇麗瓊), awarded the top three officers and showed her appreciation for all security inspectors’ efforts. In addition, to facilitate wide-range communication during the sporting event, the Taipei City Police Department established a “Digital Trunked Radio System.” As such, the Taipei City Police Department has become the first in the nation to adopt the new wireless communication system. Its functions include satellite positioning, emergency call, selective calling and group calling. Voice data are encrypted for delivery. Besides, it features small size, light weight, waterproof and dustproof design. Taipei Universiade is only 20 days away. We are convinced that the robust and impervious security measures will aggressively help ensure the best performance of top athletes from all around the world and their pleasant memories of Taiwan.
