The Wufenpu police station, Xinyi Police Precinct responded to a bicycle stolen case which occurred at lane 187, Yongji Road (永吉路) around 16:12 on December 18th 2016. When the patrol officers rushed to the spot, they checked the surveillance cameras outside the victim’s residence and found a suspicious-looking man on the footage. They took a photo of the suspect and circulated it to the officers within the police station via “LINE.”

Twenty minutes later, Patrol Officer Yu-Jin Chen(陳虞錦) and Shih-Jhong Siao (蕭仕忠) ran into the suspect who was riding the said stolen bicycle on Zhongpo North Road (中坡北路) and lane 119, Songshan Road (松山路) . They stopped and identified him as the thief, surnamed Liu, and having many theft records. Liu confessed to stealing the bicycle and was taken to the police station for questioning. Then, the police informed the victim to collect his bicycle at 17:00. The owner of the bicycle was very impressed with the police’s efficiency.

In recent years, bicycling, in lieu of walking, has become a trendy sport and the number of bicycles is increasing. In order to prevent bike theft, the Xinyi police advised that bike owners use theft-proof locks and park their bicycles at brighter areas or in front of stores which may increase thieves’ risk of being caught, so as to lower the theft rates.
