Information on Street Closures around New Year Countdown

Taipei City Government is scheduled to hold the New Year Countdown Party in the square in front of Taipei City Hall from 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 31st, 2016 to 1 a.m. on Sunday, January 1st, 2017. It is predicted that more than hundreds of thousands of people will participate. To maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure safety around the venue, the Taipei Police Department, in line with the Traffic Maintenance and Control Plan, has worked out the following traffic control measures:

The Taipei City Government is going to set up three shuttle bus lines to transport exiting party participants from the party venue. Service details regarding the schedule, locations, routes and duration are available in the pdf attachment.

Street closures and parking restrictions are expected to cause traffic delays. To use the public transportation is highly recommended. Roadside parking in the restricted areas will be suspended during the event (from 5:00 p.m. on December 31st to 3:00 a.m. on January 1st). Police will continue their enforcement against illegal parking and remove illegally parked vehicles. On New Year’s Eve, the real-time traffic information will be broadcast by the Police Broadcasting Service and other radio stations. Drivers passing through the vicinity of the party venue should slow down or detour and follow the direction dictated by police officers and volunteer police.

●Traffic Advisory

Drivers should take detours to avoid the party venue during this period when traffic restrictions are imposed. Suggested detours include the following:

1. East/West-bound traffic: To detour, take Minquan East/West Road (民權東西路), Nanjing East/West Road (南京東西路), Bade Road (八德路), Civic Boulevard (市民大道) or Heping East/West Road (和平東西路).

2. North/South-bound traffic: To detour, take Jianguo North/South Road (建國南北路), Fuxing North/South Road (復興南北路), Dunhua North/South (敦化南北路) or Songshan Road (松山路).

3. From 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 31st, Keelung Road Underpass will be reserved for emergency response vehicles only but the northbound traffic along the long tunnel of Keelung road will be opened. From 10 p.m. on the same day, entry and exit control will be imposed on all vehicles.

4. From 10 p.m. on December 31st, the use of overpasses will be restricted as follows:

(1) Ramps leading to Keelung Road from Huandong (環東) and Tiding (堤頂) Boulevards will be closed, so drivers are advised to detour by heading west along Civic Boulevard (市民大道) from Zhenqi Bridge(正氣橋).

(2) Ramps leading to Leye Street (樂業街) from Keelung Elevated Road (基隆高架道路) will be closed, northbound drivers are advised to detour by using ramps that lead to Dunhua South Road (敦化南路).

(3) City Hall Road (市府路) will be closed, so vehicles from Xinyi Expressway will be allowed to turn right to Songde Road (松德路) only.

(4) At Civic Boulevard (市民大道) and Guangfu South Road (光復南路) intersection, eastbound vehicles from Civic Boulevard Highway (市民高架道路) is not allowed to turn right into Guangfu South Road (光復南路).
